I am currently teaching Spanish for grades K-6 after taking 5 years off to stay home with my son and daughter who are just now in school full time. I am also a certified Elementary School teacher with my graduate studies in ELL. I have had the opportunity to work on numerous curriculum development committees and share thoughts and ideas with many amazing teachers across grade levels and content areas along the way.
Ironically, It was during my time home with my children that I discovered Whole Brain Teaching. I began a program in our town called Jump Start, for youngsters 2-4 years old. Selfishly, I created the program to allow my own children the opportunity for social, emotional growth while learning with my guidance. The Jump Start program helped children with the developmental tasks of sharing, following directions, and task switching in a nurturing school atmosphere.
I was prepared that at this age especially each child develops at a slightly different rate. I provided group activities that would still foster each child individually. Whole Brain Teaching to the rescue! WBT provided the positive, constant feedback and high energy reinforcement needed to keep these youngsters engaged and on task. Here is where my journey and knowledge of WBT began and still continues.
I continue to use WBT as I have re entered the public school setting. Traveling from class to class, WBT allows me to set a positive tone and clear expectations while keeping ALL students engaged utilizing the core techniques in addition to many other WBT techniques.
In my blog I will highlight how I use these techniques as a special area teacher as well as I how I communicate and share other teaching strategies with others.
